Virtual Refractor simulates a distance and near subjective optometric refraction, using a refractor head on virtual patients. There are numerous patients, prescriptions and profiles, and the patients respond to test questions and charts based on user input.
To develop the Virtual Refractor, we have drawn on our experience in teaching refraction all over the world to understand the training needs of optometrists and educators, and have collaborated with leading 3D educational gaming experts to design the tool.
Virtual Refractor is an outstanding introduction to refraction for the new student, and also provides a useful refraction refresher for more experienced clinicians.
The Brien Holden Foundation provides eye care services, education and training initiatives and conducts research in order to eliminate uncorrected vision impairment and avoidable blindness.
In providing the current version of the Virtual Refractor, the Brien Holden Foundation acknowledges the support of the Australian Government through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP).
